The Local Church

Recommendation

As I grow older and achieve successes in my life I see how the Triune God used people to recommend the best He had to offer to me. I grew up in New York City, which gave me the opportunity to see, hear and learn many things. I now reside in Atlanta, Georgia, a growing city, and I work for one of the top banks in the country. I have been married to a beautiful woman for nineteen years and I have three wonderful children. They all believe in the Lord Jesus just as my father, mother, brothers and sisters do. Also, they follow in the way of the vision of the local churches, one city, one church.

One recommendation that I received while growing up was in regard to spiritual or religious matters. This is why I left secular college and went to a Bible college. God surely added more good experiences during that time. Nevertheless, I believe there was something lacking and I still had a deep longing to know Christ in a more detailed way. I needed also to know the mystery of Christ, the church (Eph. 3:4,8-10).

The best recommendation I received regarding Christ and the church was by two believing brothers. One is from a fundamental denomination. The author to read, he said, is Watchman Nee. Nee's writings truly unveil Christ and the church in an intimate, vast, rich and detailed way. Finally I found a writer with content. Yet how could I practice this, since he had gone to be with the Lord Jesus? The other recommendation came to me by a brother who was practicing what Nee had written. He invited me to hear a brother named Witness Lee. Witness Lee, unlike so many others had no introduction. After many prayers he got up and spoke. I never saw a man whose whole being exemplified the Lord Jesus Christ as he did. He did not speak philosophy, psychology, politics or religion. Finally I saw a living example of what a Christian is. There, in front of me, was a person who lived Christ and knew the mystery of Christ, the church.

Twenty years have gone by since I took the way of the vision of one city, one church. Today all my immediate family takes this way and it even has extended to the in-laws. Given the opportunity, would I do things differently? I would say, yes! Would I take a different way to practice the church? I would answer, no! Here in the local churches I believe the Lord Jesus Christ has unveiled Himself to me. Here the little strength I have I use to keep His Word and not deny His name (Rev. 3:8).
